About the event

Broughton Dramatic Society Presents Confusions by Alan Ayckbourn

Alan Ayckbourn is one of the most prolific and widely performed of living English language playwrights and a highly regarded theatre director. He has written 74 full-length plays and has won Olivier, Tony and Moliere Awards for his work.

Confusions is a set of five interlinked one-act plays: Mother Figure, Drinking Companion, Between Mouthfuls, Gosforth’s Fête and A Talk in the Park. Each play deals riotously with human eccentricities but with sharply pointed and serious undertones. Through comedy, it deals with the universal dilemma of isolation: a mother unable to escape from baby talk, a disastrous fête further complicating the lives of the protagonists, an unsuccessful seduction attempt, a fraught dinner encounter that reveals dysfunctional relationships, and a final play about five self-sacrificing characters unable to communicate their personal issues whilst sitting on park benches!  This play is very different in structure from those we normally choose for production but it is equally as effective! Written fifty years ago, the human frailties exposed are as relevant today as when it was first produced. It is the ideal play for our seventy-fifth anniversary!

Doors for the show open at 7 pm, seating is unreserved so please ensure to arrive in plenty of time to find the seat of your choice.

This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. On behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
